Girls Change, Not Petticoat

by Harriet Peters

Every now and then there's a change on Petticoat Junction, seen Saturday nights (9:30, Ch 8). Not the formula of the successful family comedy series. Nor the petticoats, only the girls who wear them.

The trio of beauties has been changed twice with nary a whimper from the television viewing audience.

When the show premiered in September, 1963, the original trio consisted of Jeannine Riley, Pat Woodell and Linda Kaye. A few years later, Misses Riley and Woodell were no more and Gunilla Hutton and Lori Saunders joined Miss Kaye.

The second switch occurred several years later and Miss Hutton went the way of all flesh and Meredith MacRae took her place, to join the Misses Saunders and Kaye. The two on our TV Showtime cover are the Misses MacRae (left) and Kaye.

More durable have been the two stars of the series, Edgar Buchanan and Bea Benaderet.

Incidentally, the durable Miss Linda Kaye just happens to be the daughter of the show's executive producer, Paul Henning.
