Curt Massey
At the beginning of 1998, Steve Massey (Curt's son),
sent me a letter with some memories of his father, who died
October 20, 1991. Thanks, Steve, for sharing these thoughts:
"My recollection of my father's work is somewhat personal in
that he began recording music cues for the (Beverly) Hillbillies
in my old bedroom using an Ampex reel-to-reel recorder (8 track).
When he wrote for P.J. he used the same equipment.
He had a fine career as an entertainer hosting the "Curt
Massey Show" on both TV and Radio.
He was an accomplished musician (Kansas City Conservatory of
Music) and played almost every musical instrument with
perfection.
While he occasionally used studio musicians, he usually played
most of the instruments you hear in the background. And - they
were played, track by track, in my old bedroom and later in a room
in their desert home.
Some of the reels exist in storage - but are of the background
music."
